Shakira fans generally consider this album as the most favorite in Shakira's entire career. This Spanish album was released in the fall of 1998, and the lead single Ciega, Sordomuda became popular in many countries right away. Shakira changed her look with this release. Her rocky style revolutionized the Latin American pop scene, gained her even more fans and significantly strengthened her positions in the region. She started promotion in South and Central America in 1998 and continued it in 1999 in the US. This period in her career is also characterized by the quick change of her hair style - from black in 1998 to red to blond in 1999. Emilio Estefan, the producer of the album, had in mind the English release of this album as it was gaining appraisal in the USA. The original idea of simple translation of all the songs was subsequently dropped off because Shakira felt that she was not ready yet to crossover and she came up with the idea of an original English album, soon-to-be Laundry Service (2001).
All of the songs from this record, except Que Vuelvas, were taken for Shakira's famous MTV Unplugged concert/album that took place in New York City in August 1999.
Other singles from the album were Tú, Inevitable, Ojos Así and No Creo.
During this period, Shakira won a lot of awards, including special awards like "Ambassador of Good Will" and "Artist of the Century" in her native Colombia.
